Dr. Natalie Young is a nationally recognized veterinary pharmacist and healthcare leader known for advancing the role of pharmacy in animal medicine. As Clinical Veterinary Pharmacy Director for Vets Pets and Managing Partner of Companion Pharmacy, she leads innovative clinical and operational initiatives that strengthen medication safety, expand access to care, and elevate the standard of pharmaceutical practice for animal patients.

Dr. Young is among a small number of pharmacists to hold both Diplomate status through the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists and dual board certification as a Veterinary Pharmacist and in Sterile Compounding (BCSCP). She recently completed her service on the Specialty Council for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, where she helped shape national standards and contributed to the development of the sterile compounding certification examination.

A trusted leader within the profession, Dr. Young has developed and accredited multiple veterinary pharmacy programs and has spent more than a decade in national service roles. She is a Past President and former Chairman of the Board of the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists and previously served as Compounding Chair for the American Pharmacists Association, where she continues to support policy and educational initiatives.

Deeply committed to education and workforce development, Dr. Young directs a Veterinary Pharmacy Residency program in partnership with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council, and holds an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Clinical Education. She is a frequent lecturer, preceptor, and mentor, and writes a regular column for the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.

Her clinical and educational expertise is widely recognized across the industry. Dr. Young speaks nationally for VetGirl, contributes to Clinician’s Brief, and serves as an expert reviewer for Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs. Licensed in more than a dozen states, her work focuses on expanding the role of veterinary pharmacy while improving clinical outcomes for animal patients nationwide.

A North Carolina native, Dr. Young is a graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to entering pharmacy, she worked as a chemist, an experience that continues to shape her analytical approach to patient care and clinical problem-solving.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Young is often outdoors training for her next long-distance run or working on her latest Basset Hound rescue project.

Sabrina Frerichs

Dr. Sabrina Frerichs is a Clinical Veterinary Pharmacist where she plays a pivotal role in advancing clinical services, mentoring students, and contributing to the evolution of veterinary pharmacy as a profession.

Dr. Frerichs earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Chemistry and Biology with a specialization in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Loyola University Maryland. She went on to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was inducted into multiple academic honor societies. During pharmacy school, she developed a strong foundation in sterile compounding through her work at Duke University Hospital. She also contributed to meaningful research at the Johns Hopkins Behavioral Medicine Lab and co-authored several publications.

Her interest in veterinary pharmacy began during a clinical rotation at UNC under the mentorship of Dr. Natalie Young. Recognizing her outstanding clinical skills, professionalism, and collaborative spirit, Dr. Young invited her to complete the Clinical Veterinary Pharmacy Internship program, which she completed with distinction.

In 2024, Sabrina was selected as the inaugural resident of the UNC Veterinary Pharmacy Residency Program, the first program of its kind. Designed in partnership with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Vets Pets, the program is committed to preparing innovative pharmacists for leadership in community-based veterinary care. When a position opened to join Companion Pharmacy’s team permanently, both UNC and Vets Pets were thrilled to welcome her into the profession full time.

Now a key member of the Companion Pharmacy team, Dr. Frerichs works alongside Dr. Young to grow the clinical pharmacy program, support future residents, and continue expanding the role of pharmacists in veterinary medicine. She remains committed to pushing the profession into new and meaningful territory.

Emma Munson

Emma Munson brings together a strong foundation in animal care, pharmacy practice, and leadership, with a career rooted in thoughtful, individualized support for patients, clients, and care teams. During her undergraduate studies, Emma gained hands-on experience as a small animal hospital veterinary assistant, a student dairy farm employee, and a swine farm volunteer, building a practical understanding of animal health across diverse care environments.

She graduated from the Michigan State University Honors College with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 2020 and went on to complete a three-year post-graduate equine internship at Whitestone Farm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Working directly alongside the attending veterinarian, Emma supported complex treatment plans and medication administration, strengthening her ability to manage detailed care protocols and communicate seamlessly within veterinary teams.

Emma further expanded her clinical expertise through pharmacy training, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Wayne State University in 2023. She has gained inpatient pharmacy experience as a Pharmacy Intern at Corewell Health Taylor Hospital and completed APPE rotations at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, with a focus on antimicrobial stewardship and infectious diseases. She is expected to graduate with her Doctor of Pharmacy from the Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in May 2026.

Emma has been selected as the next UNC Veterinary Pharmacy Resident, where she will serve as a Veterinary Pharmacy Resident at Companion Pharmacy. Her combined experience in veterinary medicine and pharmacy allows her to support coordinated, client-centered care through clear communication, clinical precision, and a deep respect for the veterinary teams she serves.

In addition to her clinical training, Emma is a dedicated leader and collaborator. She served as Financial Vice President of Wayne State University’s APhA-ASP Student Chapter from 2024 to 2025 and completed the year-long Applebaum Leadership Development Program in 2025.
